Christians in this group -- do you pray for limited government which is God's will?
"For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour" ( I Tim 2:2-3).

If so, does the presidential (or other) candidate you are supporting meet God's standard for who you give your vote to?
"21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens" -- Exodus 18:21

Would they qualify to serve as an elder or deacon in your church?
"A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. 11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13" -- I Tim 3:2-13

If a man is not faithful in small things. He will not be faithful in large things.

Would you trust your wife, daughter, checkbook, business, personal property -- if they thought NO ONE would know what they are doing with it? With protection of your family if they had to put their very lives on the line for them? If not, why would you give them your support when they literally hold in their hands these things -- not only for you, but for hundreds of millions of others.
 
Positions on the issues matter. Being able to articulate them, defend them and enact them matter. Being electable and not having "baggage" matters. But none of these matter as much as the fear of the Lord.

God tells us: to whom much is given, much is required and if we misuse the gifts He gives us, He will take them, give them to another, more faithful servant, and cast us out (Matt 25:14-30). This applies to states & nations just as surely as it does to individuals & families (Psalm 9:17).

God has blessed us with much. We are to first fear & obey Him if we expect Him to bless us again/ more. Presumption will not get it. We cannot start with "worldly wisdom" (even if it is "conservative" wisdom about who is the most "electable"); we cannot start with the fear of man (even the fear of Obama/ Democrats).

Those who rule (the right to vote is the right to rule) must rule in the fear of the Lord; must walk in His wisdom & in the Light of His Word without regard to what we believe is possible by "sight"; and must give our votes & (especially) support ONLY to those who will not enact laws that will ensure equal justice, protection of the innocent, and who are men of good character who rule in the fear of the Lord.

If not, we are guilty of ignoring the warning of Isaiah 10:1-2; we have blood on our hands and God will not even hear our prayers (Isaiah 1:15-18); and we cannot hope for a return to the blessings of liberty, justice, peace, and prosperity. We can only expect things to continue to get worse.
