Seductive Beliefs
Seductive Beliefs
One of the painfully revealing episodes in Barack Obama's book "Dreams From My Father" describes his early experience listening to a sermon by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Among the things said in that sermon was that "white folks' greed runs a world in need." Obama was literally moved to tears by that sermon.
This sermon may have been like a revelation to Barack Obama but its explanation of economic and other differences was among the oldest-- and most factually discredited-- explanations of such difference among all sorts of peoples in all sorts of places. Yet it is an explanation that has long been politically seductive, in countries around the world.
What could be more emotionally satisfying than seeing others who have done better in the world as the villains responsible for your not having done as well? It is the ideal political explanation, from the standpoint of mass appeal, whether or not it makes any sense otherwise.
That has been the politically preferred explanation for economic differences between the Malay majority and the more prosperous Chinese minority in Malaysia, or between the Gentile majority and the Jewish minority in various countries in Europe between the two World Wars.
At various other times and places, it has been the preferred explanation for the economic differences between the Sinhalese and the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka, the Africans and the Lebanese in Sierra Leone, the Czechs and the Germans in Bohemia and numerous other groups in countries around the world.
The idea that the rich have gotten rich by making the poor poor has been an ideological theme that has played well in Third World countries, to explain why they lag so far behind the West.
None of this was original with Jeremiah Wright. All he added was his own colorful gutter style of expressing it, which so captivated the man who is now President of the United States.
There is obviously something there with very deep emotional appeal. Moreover, because nothing is easier to find than sins among human beings, there will never be a lack of evil deeds to make that explanation seem plausible.
Because the Western culture has been ascendant in the world in recent centuries, the image of rich white people and poor non-white people has made a deep impression, whether in theories of racial superiority-- which were big among "progressives" in the early 20th century-- or in theories of exploitation among "progressives" later on.
In a wider view of history, however, it becomes clear that, for centuries before the European ascendancy, Europe lagged far behind China in many achievements. Since neither of them changed much genetically between those times and the later rise of Europe, it is hard to reconcile this role reversal with racial theories.
More important, the Chinese were not to blame for Europe's problems-- which would not be solved until the Europeans themselves finally got their own act together, instead of blaming others. If they had listened to people like Jeremiah Wright, Europe might still be in the Dark Ages.
It is hard to reconcile "exploitation" theories with the facts. While there have been conquered peoples made poorer by their conquerors, especially by Spanish conquerors in the Western Hemisphere, in general most poor countries were poor for reasons that existed before the conquerors arrived. Some Third World countries are poorer today than they were when they were ruled by Western countries, generations ago.
False theories are not just an intellectual problem to be discussed around a seminar table in some ivy-covered building. When millions of people believe those theories, including people in high places, with the fate of nations in their hands, that is a serious and potentially disastrous fact of life.
Despite a carefully choreographed image of affability and cool, Barack Obama's decisions and appointments as President betray an alienation from the values and the people of this country that are too disturbing to be answered by showing his birth certificate.
Too many of his appointees exhibit a similar alienation, including Attorney General Eric Holder, under whom the Dept. of Justice could more accurately be described as the Dept. of Payback.
Herein Dr. Sowell explains in very simple terms the greatest reasons why the Dem/Progressive/Socialist/Islamist movement can never be trusted. They are simply incapable of living in reality. Like children whose minds have never been trained, they believe in a fantasy of their own making and are either too lazy, too stupid, or too immature to accept responsibility for their own shortcomings and/or lack of individual effort. It is easy to blame others for your own poor quality of life, a lot easier than to actually do something about it yourself, particularly when you have been taught you cannot excel or succeed without someone else help that they are refusing you. The US has had singular success over the past centuries because there were so many individuals willing to take individual responsibility for their own efforts at success but today our schools teach only government can give those opportunities and if your efforts lack success then you cannot be help responsible for your own actions. Within the Dem Party, one of their trademark abilities is to stick together when being lying ore being proponents of a lie, probably because they are incapable of recognizing truth and their entire philosophy has come to base itself on untruth, socialism and the absurd idea that man is so perfectible that only governments run by men dedicated to socialism can succeed or are worthy of adherence by the public and the party.
BO may be a very intelligent man but his policies are none-the-less stupid as they simply do not equate to reality. He says he loves the US but treats it as though he hates it. He has been the recipient of its largesse but acts as though he'd been purposefully help down by some unholy system (or the Jews in his friends eyes). He has appointed socialists after socialist and even known communists and Islamists to public office and yet neither party finds any of that remarkable and the Conservative group (supposedly the GOP) cannot even find room to complain or to fight back against his gangster style tactics. The very lack of GOP effort has brought forth the Tea Party movement that now threatens to ruin the GOP. Several other Political Parties have sprung up to take up the slack of opposition to the Dems that the GOP has failed to support. Now the Constitution Party is growing faster than any other party in the US because it is in open Christian Conservative opposition to the Dems and the BO regime.
It seems apparent that no effort nor comments to the GOP is going to awaken that party leadership and that may well bode ill for the US as a large percentage of voters will be leaving GOP ranks to vote as independents or as Constitutionalists leaving insufficient majority to wrest the Presidency from this purely evil man and the Dems.

Dishonest Dems
Rundown of the votes on various budget plans in the Senate:
- President Obama's budget (S. Con. Res. 18): No senator voted for it. It lost 0-97.
- House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's (R-WI) budget (H. Con. Res. 34): 40-57, 40 more votes than Obama's budget. GOP Senate Leader McConnell voted for Paul Ryan's budget.
- Sen. Pat Toomey's (R-PA) budget (S. Con. Res. 21): 42-55, 42 more votes than Obama's budget. Leader McConnell voted for Pat Toomey's budget.
- Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) budget (S. Con. Res. 20): 7-90, 7 more votes than Obama's budget. Leader McConnell voted for Rand Paul's budget.
"If nothing else, last week made it abundantly clear where Democrats stand on today's most pressing issues, and the picture isn't pretty. In case you missed it, the Democrats floated a plan for a millionaire surtax in an attempt to, as the Hill put it, 'force Republicans to accept other tax increases.' They tried to hike taxes on oil companies by more than $2 billion a year, because the industry is currently making big profits; and mounted a nationwide campaign to scare seniors away from Rep. Paul Ryan's Medicare reform -- including a new ad that depicts Ryan tossing a senior citizen off a cliff. Detect a theme there? On issue after issue, Republicans are putting forward serious, sober and often politically risky solutions to the nation's most pressing problems, while Democrats play class-warfare games and stoke the public's fear. To cope with the nation's gargantuan debt, for example, the GOP issued a budget plan that focuses -- correctly -- on reining in the government's runaway spending. The only thing Democrats want to talk about is how all our problems can be solved if we just raise taxes on the 'the rich.'" --Investor's Business Daily
Sen. Charles E. Schumer revealed to reporters that the true agenda for the Democrats is getting a vote on Mr. Ryan's budget which can be used in political commercials. 'To put other budgets out there is not the point,' the New York Democrat explained. The point is to 'say the Republicans tried to end Medicare but a Democratic majority stopped it in the Senate.'"
"The poor have been used as human shields behind which the expanding welfare state can advance. The goal is not to keep the poor from starving but to create dependency, because dependency translates into votes for politicians who play Santa Claus. We have all heard the old saying about how giving a man a fish feeds him for a day, while teaching him to fish feeds him for a lifetime. Independence makes for a healthier society, but dependency is what gets votes for politicians. For politicians, giving a man a fish every day of his life is the way to keep getting his vote. 'Entitlement' is just a fancy word for dependency." --economist Thomas Sowell
The sole purpose of the Democrat Party is to lie, lie, lie and expect the American Public to buy the lies since that is all they hear from the Main Stream Media. Dems are in office today because they stole the monies used to buy the votes to maintain them in office.

I'm an American, Too - a nice poem by a friend
By Allyson Smith:
I've yet to be born into this world
but I'm still an American and it's true
that I'm an American just like you.
I sleep off and on through the night and day.
I toss and turn, roll and play.
My heart is beating through and through
because I'm an American just like you.
Equal rights is the song that I hear
with each passing day through the year.
Equal rights are lost and forlorn
when it comes to those who are yet to be born.
Although I've not spoken my first word
our rights are seldom seen or heard.
When you vote for abortion you're legalizing murder.
Well free all of the murderers because they took a life!
Yes I'm an American and it's true
that I'm an American just like you.
For now I live in my Momma's womb.
You started in the womb at one time too
and I'm an American just like you!
If you could choose to live or die, you wouldn't stay quiet.
We'd hear the cries of, "I've got my rights!"
As the tears fall my hearts been torn
when they say, "you're not a citizen until you're born."
Many babies are conceived to die
because with abortion they don't have any rights.
I wish that my Momma was PRO-LIFE.
Goodbye.

He's unconstitutional. The bunch of crypto-Marxists, eco-Nazis, 9/11 Truthers, socialists, and radical agitators he has appointed as his "czars" are in clear violation of the Founding Fathers' principles. The czars have been granted the power of "principal officers" and ought therefore be subject to a confirmation vote by the Senate; or, if they are inferior officers, they should be answerable to Congress. The appointment of so many democratically unaccountable stooges represents a power grab that demonstrates Obama's utter contempt for the checks and balances that have preserved America from tyranny.
Thank you, Human Events

| Obama Speech On Israel Generates Growing Backlash Posted: 20 May 2011 10:56 PM PDT
He reminded Obama that a peace based on an illusion would crash on the rocks of Middle Eastern reality. He directly rejected Obama's call for Israel to return to the 1967 lines. "Israel cannot go back…because the lines are indefensible," Netanyahu said. He told Obama that Israel will not negotiate with a Palestinian government headed by Hamas and reminded Obama that Hamas condemned the killing of Osama bin Laden. On the question of Palestinian refugees, Netanyahu pointedly told Obama that the refugee issue will not be settled within the land of Israel. In other words, Israel will not agree to demographic suicide. "That's not going to happen," he told Obama. In closing, Prime Minister Netanyahu reminded Obama of the history of Israel and the Jewish people. (He was wise to do so since the president's knowledge of history sometimes appears to go no further than the day of his own election.) He told Obama that through all the dark times, including the Holocaust, the Jewish people never lost "our dream" of reestablishing a state in their ancient homeland. He told Obama, "We don't have a margin of error." Translation: You won't push us into concessions with our enemies that could jeopardize our very existence. This was an amazing moment. Of the two men sitting next to each other in the Oval Office today, only one understands the dangerous world we live in, and knows that weakness emboldens evil and makes war and defeat more likely. That man is not the president of the United States. The outrage is growing as analysts in Washington, D.C., and Jerusalem continue to pour over every word of Obama's speech on the Middle East. Obama reneged on a key pledge made by the United States to Israel in 2004. As a result, he has undermined the value of our word in international relations with potentially terrible consequences for the future. He has demoralized the Israeli people and emboldened our mutual enemies. In a 2004 letter, President George Bush outlined the U.S. position. Noting that large Israeli communities exist beyond the 1967 boundaries, Bush wrote, "…it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome" of peace talks would be a complete return to previous armistice lines. His letter was an attempt to reassure Israel that we would not pressure it to return to borders that are virtually impossible to defend. Bush's letter was endorsed by a bi-partisan resolution in the House of Representatives by a vote of 407-9. (Only one Republican voted "No" on this reasonable position -- Rep. Ron Paul.) One day later the resolution passed the Senate 95-3. One of those 95 "Yes" votes was then-Senator Hillary Clinton. Because of this presidential commitment, then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was willing to take the risk of forcing 9,000 Israelis living in Gaza to leave their homes. Gaza promptly fell under the control of Hamas. Obama's speech essentially ripped up the commitment made by Bush and Congress. It puts in jeopardy over 350,000 Israelis who live in well-established communities on the "wrong" side of the border to which Obama now demands Israel retreat. The "Obama border" would shrink Israel to a width of 8 miles in some areas. In Israel such a border is referred to as the "Auschwitz" border because it would increase the chances that the country would be overrun by its enemies, resulting in a second Holocaust. After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heard the speech yesterday, he was described as livid. He should be. His office issued a statement saying that in his meeting with Obama today, the prime minister expected "to hear a reaffirmation from President Obama of U.S. commitments made to Israel in 2004.." But at this point what is a commitment from Obama worth? Next to nothing! Last week thousands of Palestinian extremists threw themselves against the borders of Israel from all sides attempting to drown the tiny nation with a tidal wave of people dedicated to its destruction. Yesterday, Obama joined that mob attempting to erase the legitimate borders of our staunch ally. If Obama succeeds, the most holy sites of Judaism and Christianity would be in the blood-soaked hands of Hamas, Hezbollah and the allies of Syria and Iran. Every pastor and rabbi should speak up and rally their congregations against this betrayal. Congress should immediately reaffirm the 2004 resolutions. ------------- Gary Bauer is is a conservative family values advocate and serves as president of American Values and chairman of the Campaign for Working Families. | Reaction to Obama's New Policy for Israel Posted: 20 May 2011 11:19 PM PDT
Oliver North: Obama's Mideast Tack 'Deadly Mistake' WASHINGTON (AP) - Showing no progress toward peace, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sat alongside President Barack Obama on Friday and declared that Israel would not withdraw to 1967 borders to help make way for an adjacent Palestinian state. Local Reader Comments: "Israel Embassy, 3514 International Drive N.W.., Washington D.C. Phone # 202-364-5500. I will be writing (snail mail) a letter apologizing to Israel and letting them know that Obama does not represent me. There may be others who would like to do the same". President Obama assaulted Israel yesterday, demanding the Jewish people forfeit all the land they earned when attacked by armies of Muslim terrorists in the 1967 Six-Day War. Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmit (by email): "I say if we're turning back the calendar, Israel should reclaim the original Bible boundaries God gave Moses and Joshua beginning around 1500 B.C.: all land West of the Jordan river." Move America Forward (by email): "Yesterday President Obama gave a speech to push his foreign policy goals on multiple fronts with his usual style of highflying rhetoric, but once again undermined one of our key allies. Obama infuriated us when he undercut Israel in one part of the address where he called on Israel to base negotiations with the Palestinians on the 1967 borders. Why is the Obama vision that only our friends and allies have to do all of the giving?" An open letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "We stand with your right to secure Israel's borders without giving away additional land to your openly avowed enemies who do not recognize your right to exist. We recognize that former "land for peace" agreements such as the Gaza withdrawal that ravaged thousands of families from their homes, only served to increase terrorist attacks . . .
