Conscious Choice/ Consequences

Living in the System
Under its Control
Off the Grid
Apart from the System
Life Style 1770 America

Friday February 10th the year of our Lord 2012. I awaken and lay wrapped in
my comforter in my King size bed. Not yet ready to rise and face the new day,
I glance at the digital clock radio on the night stand beside my bed and see
it is 7:15 am. I lie for a moment and finally roll out of my bed and feeling
the call of nature I enter the bathroom of my residence. I make use of the
modern but taken for granted human waste disposal system that is a standard
part of modern, high tech America. After taking my morning relief I walk into
my kitchen, flip on the light switch and grab my coffee cup. I take the
coffee urn from the electric digitally timed coffee maker that an hour
earlier perked a fresh pot of coffee, and pour myself a hot cup of coffee. I
stroll into my den settle in my recliner and pick up the remote. With a click
two 40 inch plasma flat panel screens come to life. One of the flat panels
shows my desktop of my computer, and is a mishmash of ICONS, and other
wonders of the world that is high tech 2012. The other flat panel displays my
television. I set in the comfort of what is essentially my climate controlled
den. I reach and take a cigarette from the end table on my right and light
it.

In a matter of 5 or maybe 10 minutes my day has slid into my often taken for
granted normal daily routine. I live a relative Spartan lifestyle when
compared to many in our American society, yet the ease with which daily life
revolves rarely crosses my mind.

My mind has since 2008 or 2009 traveled back in time to my Mothers generation
and her life in the early 1920's. Much of what I know about that time is
speculation, intertwined with some facts. My mind wanders further back in
time to my Grandfathers time in life to the late 1800's, and yet further
back to my Great Grandfathers life in the early 1800's.

I think about the 1st 10 minutes of my day and make an effort to imagine
those same 10 minutes in my Mothers, Grandfathers, and Great Grandfathers
daily life routine. They all lived in times vastly different from 2012, or
for that matter 1960.

They enjoyed no electricity, nor central heat and air. They didn't enjoy
the luxury of hot and cold running water, a built in system of human waste
disposal. Having no electricity simple things like staying warm, making a cup
of coffee, or being able to open the refrigerator door to choose what they
would eat for the coming meal were things of which they had no concept.

Conscious Choices/ Consequences

Many today think and some openly discuss their thoughts of what lies ahead
for our Nation. Not having a crystal ball we wonder and speculate at length
about what we can expect. A time may come were the society and lifestyle
America has become accustom to may no longer exist. The choice many will have
will be to remain a part of the system, under those that control the system.
Or choose to live off the grid, outside the system as free men and women.
Either choice will have up sides and down sides and Consequences.

Apart of the system and under its control will offer depending on your status
in life a range of lifestyles harkening back to "Red Dawn" 1984 from
those in charge of the system to those who chose to live free. At one end of
that spectrum those in control enjoy all the luxuries life has to offer. At
the extreme other end of that spectrum life was a minute to minute hourly and
daily basic struggle for survival.

Self preservation our strongest God given instinct drives us all to prepare
for that unknown we face. Having over many years become accustom to much we
prepare to survive or do we. I fear our attempts and preparations are for
much more than survival. We prepare to maintain a lifestyle that is not and
won't be sustainable.

I repeat the 5 questions I asked my 4 Sons a year and a half ago.
If society breaks down and we evolve into a nation without the rule of law
can you function?
1. Could you function and survive without electricity for an extended time,
weeks or months or longer.
2. Could you function and survive without public services, like water,
emergency services, to include medical, fire and garbage disposal, and human
waste disposal.
3. Could you function and survive without fuel for your automobile.
4. Could you survive without food?
5. Finally could you survive if society breaks down and you must protect your
life, your family's lives and your home?

What will life offer? Our look must be at reality. A stark and ugly
reality….Survival a minute by minute daily struggle to survive….Is that
our reality or just Chicken Little's The Sky is falling the Sky is
falling…
